Welcome! My name is Rachael. I am a mother, wife and nurse. I work part-time from home for a local hospital using my “nursing knowledge” to help get medical treatments paid for. Let me introduce you to my site and explain what you may find here.
What’s in a name?
I first came across the phrase “Peculiar Treasures” when I read a book by Robin Jones Gunn. Ironically, the books title was Peculiar Treasures. To be honest the title didn’t have much meaning to me – at first. In the story you are introduced to a young women, Katie Weldon. She is the typical busy college student, trying to find her place in the world, searching for God’s plan for her life – while juggling multiple responsibilities. During the story the girls in the dorm made a wall with scriptures to reflect each person in the dorm. One of the scriptures was in Exodus 19:5 KJV “..(ye) shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people” When I read that it was one of those “ah-ha” moments.
We – you me – are ALL peculiar AKA unique/special! Not only are we unique but we are a treasure. A treasure (as we all probably know) is valuable, riches. Just think, that God views as a unique one of a kind treasure – it blows my mind!
The more I thought about this the more I realized we are all truly unique – in multiple ways. And because of this one size does NOT fit all. This is true in our personalities, health and wellness and dietary needs. ( Just to name a few )
What works as a stress reliever, our diets, exercise, what we like in styles and even what we do in our “free time” is different for everyone. AND THAT IS OK- that is how we were made! No cookie cutters here!
One of the reasons I created this blog was to explore the ways we are different and what can help people on their journey of life. I am passionate about health and preventative medicine. I have Hashimotos ( I will have multiple posts about this later). This condition forced me past my “traditional western medicine” training to exploring other options. Okay, okay. Let me take a moment to say I am not totally against western medicine but we have so many other options, which are often safer with “natural” medicine and are overlooked, downplayed or disregarded. * Steps off soap box *
In this blog I hope to reach out, explore and share in our journey to optimal health. I want to create a resource of tried and true recipes compatible to many people and their dietary needs. Both my own creations and others. I want to encourage and help other families holistically to explore and educate themselves on multiple topics of health and wellness.
I hope you come along with me on this journey.
